BALAYAGE HAIR SERVICE

Bayalage has been around for quite some time, however, this technique is made its way back to becoming one of the most popular hair colouring techniques in salons today. Being that it is both beautiful and allows for low maintenance, Balayage highlights are a way to work with how your hair lightens naturally in the sun.

What is Balayage?

Balayage is a French word that means ‘sweep’. The Urban Dictionary describes it as “A type of hair highlighting that looks more natural. More color is added to the end of the hair rather than the root.” If you look up its definition, you will see that it allows for ‘sun-kissed’ natural-looking hair colour, with less noticeable growth in the roots of your hair. It’s a good way to refresh your hair colour if you’re not looking to go full-on blonde or want to go for a full-colour overhaul.

How is Balayage applied?

Balayage is applied to the surface of your hair, similar to painting your hair using a small salon dye brush. The technique is to increase the amount of product so that the tips of your hair is saturated. This freehand technique requires no foil.

How long does it take?

Depending on if you want a full head of highlights, or simply a few small highlights. When a balayage service is done right, it could take as little as 45 minutes for a few, small highlights, and up to 3 hours+ depending on how much hair and the type of hair you have, not including the time to cut your hair. If you’re considering highlights, we recommend you contact a salon that is known for doing this.

How much maintenance does it require?

In short, it requires little maintenance because it grows out naturally with your hair. We leave your roots exposed so you don’t see a dye line in your roots as your hair grows. This means you can wait longer between your next appointment giving you more value to your treatment. If you want to make your balayage last, you can come in for ‘babylight’ which will make your colour look fresher for longer.

How much does balayage cost?

Balayage is a time-consuming technique that requires great product and hair knowledge. One could expect to pay a minimum of $150 for a few small highlights and up to $350+ for a full head and long hair. It is best to get a consultation before you decide on getting this service done to see if this is right for you and your hair.

Is Balayage right for me?

If you’re looking to get highlights and want a more natural look, this could be a good option for you. Many businesswomen are opting for balayage because of the low maintenance and longevity of this service. However, if you prefer the more traditional look of highlights, then balayage may not be right for you.
